Last week the second edition of Festival Nacional de Teatro Universitario (University Theatre National Festival) took place, a festival with seat in Toledo where La Coquera Teatro presented its montage 'Homenaje a Lorca' (Lorca's Homage) on Saturday the 29th of April at 15:30h.

What is 'Homenaje a Lorca' about?

'Homenaje a Lorca' (Lorca's Homage) is an initiatory tour around Granada's author and poet, where some of his less known characters appear. It's a proposal stated by dint of contrasts, with chiaroscuro as a place where magic lies, where anyone can be anything or many things at a time; and the blinding light, as an undisputable truth that burns and equalizes everything, where nuances are not allowed, just annulation and kept silence. A walk around topics like the impossibility of being, the complaints, the oppression of collective fiction or the mutability of conventions to see the world with new eyes.

The representation itself had a great reception on the audience. The space, an art gallery, was quite large on itself, crowned with a series of columns in the centre, and it also had a kind of nooks and crannies we took profit of to introduce some scenes there; also, taking into account that we performed at 3pm, we achieved the ideal darkness in order to create that magical space where the play takes place. All that, also adding the cast members' performances, influenced greatly into that the critiques of the assisting public were positive at its most. To all the assisting ones, thank you very much and congratulations on the great job, mates!

The next day, on Sunday the 30th, there was the festival's award ceremony where the Prize to Best Mise-en-scène fell in our montage stating the points I already mentioned before, so the remaining cast member could enjoy it with the rest of participating theatre troupes in the festival and coming back home with filled hands.

To sum up, it could be said that this had been an intense weekend where the city of Toledo had shown again as I remembered; I've seen some known faces that had cheered me up with their affection and warmth, I met other new faces from the national scene that already belong to my memories of this weekend but, above all, I had enjoyed the magic and the recognition of this career. Thank you for the festival's prize, congratulation to the festival's crew, thank you very much Toledo, see you, if destiny wants it, next year.
