Iggy Planas (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1992) is a Canary-islander actor from Catalan ascendance, now living in Barcelona. He is mainly known for some theatrical projects where he had achieved a remarkable experience. After a brief time in musicals during 2000-2001, Iggy started acting on stages from 2008, first in amateur projects and gradually in wider productions. He also has experience in audiovisuals, television and commercials; and as a scriptwriter with projects both in cinema and in the theatre with newly created plays.
From an early age, he had artistic concerns in acting, this made his parents enrol him in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Philarmonic when he was just 6 years old. There, he developed some singing notions in addition to the basics of acting. Nine months later, he participated in the musical 'Bründibar' (premiered in late May 2001 in Alfredo Kraus Auditorium)
It was not until 2008, seven years after her debut, that she resumed acting activity, this time in text theater, enrolling in a series of youth theater workshops, taught by Davinia Domínguez Falcón, at the Canary Islands School of Actors . During the following two years, he acted in several plays ranging from the theater of the Renaissance and the Golden Age to others of a more current nature. In addition, in 2010, together with her company, she presented a play written and directed by Davinia Domínguez Falcon, called ' Bajo el Barro' , at the Buero Awards that year and was awarded that year's award in the Autonomous Community category. .
Once he began his university studies in September 2010 he moved to the city of Barcelona. There he also participated in various theatrical works with different companies or acting schools (Set d'Acció, Aula de Teatre UB Raval, LaCoquera Teatro). This led him to represent various works and amateur film projects with various directors over the next three years: Miquel Ripeu, Jose María Isidoro (cinema/TV), Daniel Sesé (cinema/TV), David Ortega, Antoni Galmés and David Bo. With the latter director, he presented a play written and directed by Bo called ' Els Set Contra Èsquil' in the first edition of the Ciutat de Barcelona University Theater Awards (May 2013), also known as Cascabel Awards . A contest in the field of university theater in which the play was awarded three prizes in the categories of Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Dramaturgy.
Also, during that time he participated in some Advertisement Spots and TV3's tv series 'Pop Ràpid' (Fast Pop).
In late 2014, Iggy joined LaCoquera Teatro, a theatre troupe in which he still takes part nowadays, participating in three theatrical plays during that year and the beginning of the following one. On one hand, with director Nicolás Juguet, he premieres in Festival MUTIS VI (March 2015) a first version of the play 'Chupa-Escupe' (Gasping), inspired by some texts of British playwright Ben Elton, and translated and adapted into Spanish by Pia Muñoz, Marc G. Ricci, Nicolás Juguet and Iggy himself. On the other hand, he also participated in a version of 'Tres Sombreros de Copa' (Three High Hats) (March 2015 - May 2015) directed by Alberto Rizzo. In addition, he performs in 'Los Fusilados' (Executed), a stage-play written and directed by Alberto Rizzo, premiered in May in Lisbon's FATAL Fest and on tour around different festivals around Spain: III Premis de T.U. Ciutat de Barcelona (May 2015), Almagro's Festival (September 2015) and Pamplona's II Festival Joven Mutis por el Foro (October 2015). In those festivals, the play received three prizes: Best Handbill and Best Original Dramaturgy (III Premis de T.U. Ciutat de Barcelona); Best Actor to Adrián Portillo, and recognition to Best Actor to Iggy Planas (II Festival Joven Mutis por el Foro).
In late 2015 and the beginning of 2016, Iggy Planas was working on three new stageplays with two troupes. On one side, with LaCoquera Teatro, he worked as Director's Assistant in 'Red Wolf', a theatrical adaptation of the film 'Hard Candy '(2005), premiered in April 2016. He also kept working with Nicolás Juguet on the second version of 'Chupa-Escupe' (Gasping), re-premiered with a new script version and a partly different cast in late May 2016 in IV Premis de T.U. Ciutat de Barcelona, where the play won the prices of Best Supporting Actor to Pau Murner and Best Adapted Script and Misé-en-scene to all the adapters of the play (Iggy included). On the other hand, with the troupe La Meridiana, he performed in 'Besos Fumados' (Stoned Kissed), an adapted version of Jose Luis Alonso de Santos' 'Down to Morocco', directed and adapted by Misael Sanroque, premiered in March 2016 on Festival MUTIS VII, where the play obtained the prize of Best Dramaturgy. This stageplay was also exhibited on the billboard of Cafè-Teatre Llantiol for one month (May 2016-June 2016) and briefly in Sabadell's L'Alternativa Teatre (June 2016).
During that time he also studied for a Master's degree in Theatrical Studies (MUET) at Univeristat Autònoma de Barcelona and Institut del Teatre, thanks to that, he started his work as a scriptwriter and playwright. In addition, at the end of 2016, he courses the first year of the Titration of Interpretation for Theatre, Cinema and Tv in La Bobina Centre de Formació Actoral. During that time he writes a series of short-films: '803: Calabria con Consell' (803: Calabria with Consell) (co-written with Camen Ibáñez), 'Collapse' and 'Relative'. Also, in the theater field, he writes 'Viejas Heridas' (Old Wounds), a short-play and starts sketching many theatrical scripts of different themes with the aim of premiering them on stage.
In 2017, Iggy participates with La Coquera Teatro in two new montages. On one hand, he works in Aristophanes' 'Lisístrata' (Lysistrata), which premiered in March of that year in Porta 4 and by whose role he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor on the fifth edition of Premis de T.U. Ciutat de Barcelona, a play set in Classical Greece directed by Laia Cardona and Camen Ibáñez which was represented in different places around Barcelona and Mallorca (Capdepera) until May 2019. On the other hand, he also participated in Homenaje a Lorca (Lorca's Homage), directed by Alberto Rizzo and premiered in March 2017 too in Festival MUTIS VII, an initiatory tour around Lorca's universe that follows the rules of immersive theater, shown in different places around Barcelona as well as in the rest of the Iberian Peninsula and exhibited in Teatre Tantarantana's Àtic 22 during June 2017 with a great acceptation of the audience and critics.
The following year, he finishes his studies in La Bobina collaborating in the webseries 'Catch Much Match', and he participates in several projects, on one side, he keeps collaborating in Homenaje a Lorca (Lorca's Homage) or Lisístrata (Lysistrata) in addition of joining the cast of La Coquera's most recent show regarding immersive theater, a theatrical adaptation of Jose Saramago's novel 'Ensayo sobre la ceguera' (Blindness), premiered in April 2018 in Toledo and which was exhibited in Teatre Tantarantana's Àtic 22 on July of that same year. He also makes his first contact in short-plays with 'Triunvirato Multígamo' (Multigamous Triumvirate), by Brian Rodríguez, a project where he kept linked to up to 2019. On the other hand, with La Meridiana, he joins the project 'Gente Nocturna' (Nocturnals), a stage-play directed and written by Misael Sanroque where Iggy also collaborated as writer assistant which was premiered in March of the following year (2019) in MUTIS X, getting mixed critiques and a great acceptation by audiences during the shows performed during the months of March and May 2019. In addition, during fall 2019, he participated in the shooting of the music video 'Cotnes' by Balkan Paradise Orchestra and the short film ''Yo también quiero ser madre' (I want to be a mother too)
In 2020 Iggy joins two new projects with the troupe la Coquera. On one hand, he works in Oscar Wilde's 'El Arte de Mentir' (The Decay of Lying), the first play which he also assumes the role of director; and, on the other hand, he participates in 'Orígens' (Origins), written by Laia Cardona, the debut of the dramatist. Both projects had to be postponed due to the CoVid19 sanitary crisis. Although this activity stoppage, Iggy also participated in the short-film 'Un Ladrón' (A Thief), co-written by Misael Sanroque and Juan Genlot, and directed by Sanroque himself, the project had its shooting during the month of November and will be premiered soon. Also, in the following year, he participated in the shooting of 'Los Últimos Cinco' (2021) (The Last Five), a short-film written and directed by Pol Pagès as well as working in 'Homenaje a Lorca' (Lorca's Homage) in occasional performances.
In 2022, Iggy returned to his regular theatrical activity in La Coquera Teatro acting and directing in 'El Arte de Mentir' (The Decay of Lying), a play adapted from a non-represented text by Oscar Wilde which had its preview in early 2023 and nowadays is looking for future performances. On the other hand, with the troupe Mamut Teatre, he collaborated in the comedy 'Las Auténticas Hembras Alfa de Benidorm' (Benidorm Real Housewives) as director assistant and with some small supporting roles, this play had its season in Sala Cincómonos from November 2022 to April 2023. In the following year, in addition to work in 'El Arte de Mentir' (The Decay of Lying), this time as director only, he also participated in a new project by Mamut Teatre 'Final de Trayecto' (End of Journey), written and directed by Misael Sanroque, which was premiered in March 2023 in Fabra i Coats within Festival MUTIS XIV and looking for new performances nowadays.
Currently, Iggy participated in a revival of LaCoquera's version of Lisístrata (Lysistrata), by Aristophanes, which was exhibited in Sala Cincómonos in March 2024; and, a month later, he will be premiering within Festival MUTIS XV a new project with Mamut Teatre, 'Respiración Artificial' (Artificial Breathing), written and directed by Misael Sanroque. Besides all these projects, Iggy also participates in others like dramatized readings, performances, events, advertisement shootings, or audiovisual projects.
