For a second consecutive year, for the month of the Dead, La Coquera Teatro will present a series of dramatized readings of José Zorrilla's famous play 'Don Juan Tenorio' with some performed and staged parts, a kind of play in between a dramatized reading and a performance itself of the play. As in recent years, Iggy Planas participates in this project playing the part of Ciutti, his character. The play thus will have some itinerant street theatre elements, where the audience will move around the different areas where the action takes place. For the time being, there are two scheduled performances, explained in detail down below.
What is the play about?
Don Juan Tenorio makes a vile bet with don Luis Mejía consisting in charming in record time not only a naive novice but also his enemy Luis Mejía’s fiancée.
Don Juan Tenorio achieves his goals: he fools his rival’s fiancée and kidnaps the seventeen-year-old noble lady doña Inés from her convent. But don Juan falls madly in love with her and decides to ask her father, the commander don Gonzalo de Ulloa for her hand in marriage.
Don Gonzalo de Ulloa and don Luis Mejía appear enraged at the seducer’s house to confront him. Don Juan Tenorio fights against both gentlemen, killing them on the way. But authorities tighten the grip around the seducer, and he must flee from Seville, leaving her loving doña Inés behind.
After several years, Don Juan comes back to Seville, only to find that his palace had become a pantheon where all his victims are buried. These victims still have pending issues with him and, during a single night, don Juan Tenorio must confront the spirits of the ones he fooled long ago and try to find salvation for his impure soul.

The first dramatized reading will take place next Thursday the 31st of October, All Hallows Eve, in different points in UPC's Campus Sud. It will start at 19h and the meeting point is the facade of EPSEB (Av. Gregorio Marañón 50, Barcelona. Metro: L3/L9Sud - Zona Universitària). Free entrance. Bookings: delegacio.epseb@upc.edu
As a novelty this year, a second dramatized reading will take place on Saturday the 16th of November in Barcelona's Reial Cercle Artístic at 19h. The meeting point for this show will be the entrance itself of the building (C/dels Arcs, 5, Barcelona. Metro: L1|L3 Catalunya, L1|L4 - Urquinaona). Free entrance booking previously, reduced seats to 30 people.
In both cases, remember that this is an itinerant activity where both the audience and the actors will be moving around different areas, so it's recommended to arrive with enough time prior to the stated hour to avoid getting lost on the way.
There are no excuses to miss this double date and enjoy this Dead month's classic. Are you going to miss it?
