Yesterday evening the countdown came to an end, at 19h in Porta4 we premiered our version of 'Lysistrata' in a theatre hall filled with an audience willing to enjoy and have fun among laughter. There were high nerves prior to the premiere, the effort and swear we've had before that day were also high, but since we were performing on stage we noticed that those nerves, sweats and efforts were disappearing up to the point that the play's hour of duration flew by, a sign that both actors and the audience were enjoying and living the moment.
What is Lysistrata about?
Lysistrata (Greek: Λυσιστράτη "the one who dissolves the army") is Aristophanes' most famous play.
We travel to Athens in 411a.C, in the middle of a war between Athens and Sparta that lasts for twenty year. Before the dark reality and stubbornness of men to keep on fighting, women, led by Lysistrata, will take a sexual strike in order to get that peace needed in Greek city states. In the absence of making love... will they finish the war?
A Greek style comical utopia.
Thanks so much to all the assisting audience; the fact of having a willing and attentive audience, see how they laugh and signs of joy in their eyes is one of the most gratifying sensations of this career and I can only be grateful of the well performed job and, how not, the rest of cast members, who had given their grain of sand with their way of working generating a comradeship feeling and good vibes you feel when you face the stage.
In addition, after the show we had a small celebration and a toast for this premiere, there I was able to share some opinions and shows of affection of the audience, who brought their critiques to the table, which will serve as a way to make this play grow in next gigs and to be better.
We will keep working to improve and still having the support and love of the public. If you haven't seen the play yet, you can do it during this month of March every Saturday at 19h in Porta4, we promise not to defraud!
